He joked saying that the one good thing about the pandemic was getting Chrissy Teigen out of our lives. The audience immediately reacted with some cheering and a very few booing the show host. Courtney Stodden, the American singer, and model had made allegations that Teigen viciously bullied her about a decade back on Twitter. It was pretty obvious that the audience was equally put off by Teigen’s insensitivity just like Pete Davidson was.
Chrissy Teigen apologizes
Teigen, who is the mother of two and also the wife of John Legend, publicly apologized after Stodden revealed what she had done. Teigen, who was in her mid-20s a decade ago, should never have attacked Stodden in the first place. What’s disturbing is the fact that she actually told her to go and die. Stodden has revealed it was not just about the public tweets infact, Teigen also sent her direct messages urging her to commit suicide. Even though Teigen publicly apologized, Stodden has said that the actress never reached out to her personally to apologize. Teigen, we believe, derived some kind of sadistic entertainment out of bullying Stodden or thought that it would result in followers joining her in bullying poor Stodden.
Pete Davidson’s Skit
Chrissy Teigen became the object of parody in Pete’s SNL sketch during a segment about mental health awareness on the show last Saturday. Pete’s jokes received a lot of positive feedback, and fans were literally cheering the show host for his clever jabs at the cookbook author. One person tweeted that Pete Davidson roasting Chrissy Teigen is the best thing he has seen on SNL in years. Another said that he screamed when the show host joked about Teigen and a third referred to Pete Davidson’s criticism as ‘classic.’ The fan supposedly tweeted Dayum Pete ain’t afraid to go there, and that’s why we love him. Stodden hasn’t released screenshots of the messages, so their presence cannot be confirmed. However, Teigen never denied anything that Stodden said, which makes us conclude that she did make those very rude remarks about Stodden. Teigen has said that she was ashamed of the person that she was ten years ago.
The Teigen controversy
This may not be ‘hot news’ a month from now, but it does send out an important message related to mental health awareness and suicide prevention. We will never know why Teigen, who was a full-grown adult at that time, derived pleasure from such insensitive behavior. Mental health experts have explained how random comments made by even a stranger can sometimes push a person to the extent of committing suicide. According to Stodden, Teigen told her she should take a dirt nap, and mental health experts explain how she might have unknowingly created an image in Stodden’s mind that might have haunted her. Though Teigen openly apologized to Stodden, and the latter accepted it, such behavior cannot be accepted as appropriate. Teigen obviously is eager to let the controversy pass and believes that admitting regret and claiming that she was working towards becoming a better person would also save her partnerships with companies that she’s associated with. To truly make amends, Teigen might consider supporting causes like mental health awareness and suicide prevention in the future. Teigen most probably learned her lesson only when she became the target of cyberbullying herself after Stodden broke her silence. Teigen was attacked so badly that she has temporarily left Twitter. We all think Stodden deserves much more than a Twitter apology. Teigen should do something that actually helps Stodden heal. We all hope Teigen’s bullying is a lasting example of what should never be said to someone.
